GHOST - ELIZABETH PEYTON - KEMPER ART MUSEUM - JANUARY 28, 2011 - APRIL 18, 2011 -

Elizabeth Peyton - Rhinemaidens (Norms) 1876, 2010

Ghost: Elizabeth Peyton will be presented concurrently at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum and the Opelvillen in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The exhibition is curated by Sabine Eckmann, William T. Kemper Director and Chief Curator, and Beate Kemfert, curator at the Opelvillen, and will be on view from January 28 through April 18, 2011.

American contemporary artist Elizabeth Peyton is celebrated as one of the most important painters of her generation; during the last two decades she has also created numerous monotypes, lithographs, etchings, and woodcuts. Ghost: Elizabeth Peyton will be the first in-depth exploration of the artist as a critical printmaker. Her works on paper embrace beauty and visual pleasure, and take as their subjects artists such as Andy Warhol, David Hockney, and Robert Mapplethorpe, as well as many of her own artist friends; cultural and historical figures, ranging from rapper Eminem to William Shakespeare; and, more recently, still lifes.

DRIES VAN NOTEN - FALL 2011 - PARIS

Dries Van Noten claimed he was bringing together two key flavors of Fall—David Bowie and the Ballets Russes—in his new womenswear collection. When he sat photos of Bowie as Ziggy Stardust next to iconic images of Nijinsky dancing, he was struck by the similarities. But that was Dries alone at home with his thoughts. On his catwalk those inspirations were so thoroughly absorbed into a heady collage of color, print, and texture that specific references were irrelevant. Bowie gave Dries his song "Heroes" to remix for the soundtrack (2 Many DJs performed the honors), and its yearning surge set the tone. "Not heroic," clarified the designer, "but romantic. I think 'Heroes' is one of the most passionate songs ever, and I am passionate about this collection."

MUSIC BETH GIBBONS & RUSTIN MAN - OUT OF SEASON - 2011

Out Of Season - Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man by music lylybye

Beth Gibbons takes a break from her Portishead duties to team up with former Talk Talk man Paul Webb (alias Rustin Man) to make what will surely become one of the albums of 2002. 'Out Of Season' is a beautiful album, in equal parts melancholic, inspiring, dark and heart rendering. Largely acoustic and tinged with romanticism, 'Out Of Season' is another reminder that Beth Gibbons possesses one of the greatest and most evocative voices of our generation."
